Garstang Cricket Club
The Cricket Club was established in 1948, when the wicket on the old Show field was put back into playing condition and the old hut was repaired. The next few years followed multiple promotions, before a second team was added five years later. In 1957, the pavilion was dismantled and moved to the other side of the old railway line, to where it is today. The club continued to grow and in the early 1970s was formed, and a third team added in 1993.
After winning the Palace Shield Premier Division in 2017 for the first time in the Clubs history, Garstang CC became the first team to receive promotion from the Palace Shield to the Northern Premier League following establishment of a link between the two leagues. Today they have 3 Saturday teams, a Sunday team, two women’s teams and a thriving Junior Section. Annually, they host Garstang Summer Festival, which has grown into an amazing event.
Garstang Football Club
Garstang FC was formed in 1885. Originally playing at ‘The Beeches’ on Bowgreave Rise, they relocated to The Riverside in the mid-60s. The club made the step up from the Preston and District League to the West Lancashire league. made steady progress in the early years and then, under the guidance of manager Keith Brindle, reaching the Lancashire Amateur Shield final 2 years in succession, winning it in’ 99/00, the same year that they won the Presidents Cup and achieved promotion to the Premier Division where they stayed for a couple of years before dropping back down. Promotion back up was achieved in 05/06, where the club remained until stepping up to the NWCFL in 18/19 after both teams winning a double.
They now have two adult teams, a First in the NWCFL Div1 North and Reserves in the West Lancs. A thriving Walking Football Section was set up in 2020 (now with over 100 members), before adding a Junior Section in 2025 (now more nearing 200 members). Annually they host a Festival of Football, which showcases the footballing talent in the area.
Garstang Rugby Club
Garstang Rugby Club, proudly known as ‘The Oaks’, was founded at the Royal Oak Hotel on 19 June 1995, when a group of local rugby enthusiasts came together with one ambition — to put Garstang on the rugby map. Initially without a permanent home, the Club played fixtures at Garstang High School and Lancaster University before securing a lease in 1998 on an abandoned patch of land beside the River Wyre. In 2001, the ground was renamed Hudson Park, in tribute to former Club President and playing stalwart Richard Hudson. Since then, The Oaks have grown from humble beginnings into a thriving community rugby club, celebrating league promotions, cup successes and memorable achievements on the field.
Our proud junior section has become an important pathway for the next generation. Through our relationship with the Fylde Rugby Community Foundation, players benefit from additional coaching and opportunities to progress, with numerous Oaks going on to achieve Lancashire representative honours, including appearances at Twickenham. More than 30 years after that first meeting, Hudson Park is now home to senior and junior rugby, families, volunteers and supporters. From grassroots to county colours, Garstang continues to grow — proud of our history, rooted in our community and ambitious for our future.
